Ingredients of Aval/Poha (Beaten rice) Payasam
- It's 100 g of Aval(Beaten rice).
- It's 250 g of Jaggery.
- You need of Coconut milk from 1 coconut or 400 g coconut milk powder.
- Prepare of Elaichi/Cardamom 5 powdered.
- It's 50 g of Raisins.
- Prepare 50 g of Cashewnut.
- Prepare 50 g of Ghee.
Aval means flattened rice/beaten rice/ rice flakes in Tamil, and payasam means pudding. This aval payasam is quite famous across South Indian. Ingredients Required for Aval Payasam & Substitutes: Aval Flattened Rice: I prefer thick poha for this kheer.
Aval/Poha (Beaten rice) Payasam instructions
- Wash beaten rice in water - squeeze well and keep aside..
- Melt jaggery in 1 cup of water and strain for any impurities..
- In a pan, add ghee and first fry cashew nuts then raisins and keep them aside..
- Add the beaten rice to the ghee and pour half a cup of water and cook till tender..
- Add melted jaggery to the pan and cook for about 5 minutes..
- Add coconut milk and switch off the flame and leave it for 5 minutes..
- Finally add the cardamom powder, fried cashews and raisins. The tasty payasam is ready..
Perfectly soaked aval would be very soft, moist and nonstick. I made Poha Kheer/Aval Payasam in microwave which is easy. I normally make poha kheer in microwave as it's quite fast and perfect to make on a Well it's Mexican mango from Fair Price though quite expensive and nothing like our Indian Mango!
