Ingredients of Kovil Sakkarai Pongal

  1. You need 1 of small cup raw rice.
  2. You need 1/4 cup of yellow moong dal.
  3. You need 1/2 cup of Jaggery.
  4. Prepare 6 cups of water.
  5. Prepare 1 tsp of cardamon powder.
  6. Prepare 6-8 of cashewnuts.
  7. Prepare 6-8 of almonds.
  8. It's 1/2 cup of pure ghee or clarified butter.
  9. It's 6-8 of raisins.

Kovil Sakkarai Pongal step by step

  1. Put moong dal in cooker & roast for a minute while stirring..
  2. Switch off the flame and add raw rice and 1 cup of water.Wash rice and dal and throw away the water..
  3. Again add 3 cup of water & 1 tsp of ghee Cover the cooker with lid & give it 3-4 whistles.Switch off the flame..
  4. Meanwhile in a pan heat 2 cups of water with jaggery.Cook on low flame till jaggery dissolves completely..
  5. Heat 2 tbsp pure ghee in a pan and roast cashews,almonds & raisins.Switch off the flame..
  6. Open the lid of cooker and mash little dal and rice..
  7. Add this mashed dal and rice to jaggery water..
  8. Add fried cashews,raisins and almonds along with the ghee in it..
  9. Add cardamom powder and cook on low flame for 2 minutes.Now add rest of the ghee and cook for 15 minutes,stir constantly..
  10. When it becomes brown in colour and ghee spreads fry corners,switch off the flame..
  11. Serve hot..
