Ingredients of Traditional Ven-Pongal
- You need of Pongal.
- It's 1 cup of Rice.
- Prepare 1/2 cup of Slit and dehusked green lentil.
- It's 10-12 of Black pepper corns.
- Prepare 1 teaspoon of Cumin seeds.
- You need 1/4 teaspoon of Aesafoetida.
- You need 1 inch of piece of ginger crushed.
- You need 2 tablespoons of oil.
- Prepare 2 tablespoons of ghee.
- It's To taste of Salt.
- It's 1/2 teaspoon of Turmeric powder.
- You need of Tempering.
- It's 1 tablespoon of Ghee.
- You need 2 of Dry red chillies.
- Prepare Pinch of black pepper and cumin powder.
Traditional Ven-Pongal step by step
- Roast for few seconds rice and lentil separately and wash and keep aside..
- In a pressure cooker pan, add ghee and oil and add freshly crushed pepper and cumin seeds along with asafoetida and crushed ginger.
- Add rice and lentil and fry..
- Add turmeric powder, cumin powder and salt and fry for 2 minutes..
- Add water and let it come to a boil. Put the lid and let cook till 2 whistles..
- Open lid once the cooker cools normally..
- Add tempering and serve hot with chutney or sambar or just as it is. It taste delicious any which way..
