Ingredients of Ven Pongal
- Prepare 1 cup of rice.
- Prepare 1/4 cup of moong dal.
- You need 2 1/2 cup of water.
- You need For of Tempering:-.
- It's 2 tbsp of Ghee.
- You need 8-10 of cashew nuts.
- Prepare 1/2 tsp of Cumin seeds.
- You need 1/2 tsp of crushed pepper corns.
- You need 1 pinch of hing.
- Prepare 2 of green chillies slit.
- It's 1 sprig of Curry leaves.
- It's 1 inch of ginger grated.
Ven Pongal instructions
- Dry roast dal on a low to medium flame till it begins to smell nice and aromat..
- Add rice and the roasted dal to a pot or cooker..
- Wash it at least three times. Drain the water completely..
- Pour water, add salt and cook the rice and dal till it gets a soft texture..
- For pressure cooking if cooking directly in the pressure than cook for 2 whistles on a medium flame..
- When the pressure release naturally open the lid..
- Tempering:- Heat a pan with ghee fry cashews till golden..
- Add cumins and crushed pepper..
- Allow them to splutter then add chilli, ginger and turmeric saute well until the tempering turns aromatic..
- Then add hing, curry leaves pour this into the cooked pongal..
- Mix and simmer for 2 minutes. Turn the stove off..
- Serve ven pongal with coconut chutney or sambhar..
