Ingredients of Kovil Sakkarai Pongal
- Prepare 1 of small cup raw rice.
- Prepare 1/4 cup of yellow moong dal.
- You need 1/2 cup of Jaggery.
- You need 6 cups of water.
- It's 1 tsp of cardamon powder.
- It's 6-8 of cashewnuts.
- Prepare 6-8 of almonds.
- It's 1/2 cup of pure ghee or clarified butter.
- Prepare 6-8 of raisins.
Kovil Sakkarai Pongal instructions
- Put moong dal in cooker & roast for a minute while stirring..
- Switch off the flame and add raw rice and 1 cup of water.Wash rice and dal and throw away the water..
- Again add 3 cup of water & 1 tsp of ghee Cover the cooker with lid & give it 3-4 whistles.Switch off the flame..
- Meanwhile in a pan heat 2 cups of water with jaggery.Cook on low flame till jaggery dissolves completely..
- Heat 2 tbsp pure ghee in a pan and roast cashews,almonds & raisins.Switch off the flame..
- Open the lid of cooker and mash little dal and rice..
- Add this mashed dal and rice to jaggery water..
- Add fried cashews,raisins and almonds along with the ghee in it..
- Add cardamom powder and cook on low flame for 2 minutes.Now add rest of the ghee and cook for 15 minutes,stir constantly..
- When it becomes brown in colour and ghee spreads fry corners,switch off the flame..
- Serve hot..
