Recipe: Appetizing Dhondakai koora

Dhondakai koora. Andhra Style Dondakaya Menthi Karam Koora Recipe has been in my family since generations. Packed with flavours, this recipe goes well with steamed rice for lunch or dinner. This is a side dish that you can make even when you have less hand at time, since this is just a stir fry with recommended spices.

Dhondakai koora Ivygourd or dondakaya is commonly used to make chutney or curry in most andhra homes. Most times i make a stir fry / vepudu without the addition of onion or tomatoes, but flavored with coconut and sesame seeds powder. That one goes good with plain rice, sambar or rasam. You can cook Dhondakai koora using 13 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Dhondakai koora

  1. It's 1/2 kg of gerkins.
  2. Prepare 2 tbsp of oil.
  3. It's 1 tsp of jeera / cumin.
  4. Prepare 1 tsp of mustard seeds.
  5. You need 1 of red chilli.
  6. Prepare 1/4 inch of ginger.
  7. It's 4 of garlic cloves.
  8. It's 2 1/2 of mounted tsps salt.
  9. You need 2 tsp of chilli powder.
  10. It's 2 springs of curry leaves.
  11. It's 1 tsp of turmeric.
  12. You need 1/2 of Coconut (dried/fresh).
  13. Prepare 50 grams of Coriander.

Sauteed Ivy Gourd ~ Dondakaya Koora. Sauteed ivy gourd is an easy Indian side dish. Serve it with rice or any Indian flatbreads. Theme for this week is meal time dishes.

Dhondakai koora instructions

  1. Cut gherkins into 8s..
  2. Heat 2 tbsps oil in a pan..
  3. Add gherkins, cumin, mustard seeds, red chilli. Mix. Cook for 10 minutes..
  4. Make ginger garlic paste.
  5. Add salt. Wait for water to evaporate and oil to come out. Add ginger-garlic paste, curry leaf, turmeric. Cook for 3 minutes (until ginger-garlic aroma comes out).
  6. Add chilli powder. Mix. Cook for 5 minutes (until gherkin is cooked.).
  7. Cut coriander..
  8. Take half a coconut (dried/fresh). Mixie it. Add after the gherkin is cooked. Cook for 10 minutes if fresh coconut and 2 minutes for dry coconut..
  9. Add coriander for 2 minutes (can add with dried coconut but after fresh coconut)..

Sauteed ivy gourd was the first dish I made for this theme, though I am posting it last. This version of the Dondakaya koora is spicier and satisfies the craving for hot and spicy food.
