- To prepare the filling: Boil 1 cup of water in a vessel. When the water boils, add powdered jaggery to it and allow it to melt..

- Heat the strained jaggery mixture till it thickens. When it thickens, add grated coconut to it and mix well. Add a pinch of cardamom powder as well..
- Keep on sauteing till the coconut jaggery filling is thick enough. Add a teaspoon of ghee to it and mix well. Prepare small balls out of the filling.
- To prepare the kozhukattai: Take a dough ball. Grease your finger tips with oil. Using a little water and oil, prepare a depression and keep on shaping it till it appears like an earthen lamp. (see pic).
- Drop a filling ball in the depression and gently fold the ends together and close it towards the top of the filling..
