  1. Prepare 500 gms of tangra fish.
  2. You need 1 of onion chopped & two whole onion.
  3. It's 1 of tomato (chopped).
  4. Prepare 1/2 tsp of Nigella seeds.
  5. You need 3-4 of green chillies.
  6. It's 1 tsp of kashmiri red chhilli powder.
  7. You need 1 tsp of cumin powder.
  8. You need 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.
  9. It's 1/2 tsp of sugar.
  10. It's to taste of Salt.
  11. You need 4-5 tbsp of mustard oil.

Tangra Machher Jhal/ Small Cat fish Curry step by step

  1. Wash & clean the tangra fishes & marinate them with salt & turmeric powder for 10 mints..
  2. In a kadhai heat mustard oil & fry lightly the tangra or cat fishes by covering the kadhai with a lid. Keep them aside..
  3. In the same oil add nigella seeds,bay leaf, green chillies(splited), cardamom pods..
  4. Then add chopped onions & whole onion, cook till it's colour changes to light brown..
  5. Now add chopped tomatoes,Kashmiri red chilli powder, ginger paste, cumin powder, little salt,turmeric powder & cook them in medium heat till raw smell of masala goes away and oil comes out from masala..
  6. Add some water & add the fishes. Cover the kadhai with lid and cook for another 5 mints..
  7. Switch off the flame & garnish with chopped coriander leaves on a serving plate..
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice..
