Recipe: Delicious Onakka chemmeen chutney or Dry shrimp chutney

Onakka chemmeen chutney or Dry shrimp chutney. Dried shrimp chutney is a traditional Kerala recipe. This is very tasty and a very good combination with kanji (Rice Porridge). It's very easy to prepare and the incredients required also very less.

Onakka chemmeen chutney or Dry shrimp chutney A flavour packed chutney made with dried prawns, coconut and spices. But the first thing I did was to make some rice and chammanthi (chutney). That's when I thought about this chammanthi, which I promised to post. You can have Onakka chemmeen chutney or Dry shrimp chutney using 8 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Onakka chemmeen chutney or Dry shrimp chutney

  1. It's 3/4 cup of Dry roasted shrimp.
  2. You need 1 cup of Coconut grated.
  3. You need 10-15 of Dry red chillies.
  4. Prepare 1 tsp of Tamarind.
  5. Prepare 4-6 of Shallots.
  6. You need 1 of string Curry leaves.
  7. Prepare to taste of salt.
  8. Prepare as needed of oil.

Prawn Chutney Powder We Keralites make different kinds of chammanthi using different veggies, dry fish, prawns etc. I will share their recipes sometime soon. Btw I have never heard or tasted a chicken/meat chutney but I am pretty sure that someone might have the recipe. Dry roast the prawns in a pan.

Onakka chemmeen chutney or Dry shrimp chutney instructions

  1. Remove the head and tail of the shrimp..... wash and Pat dry.....
  2. Heat a pan and roast the shrimps till crisp.....
  3. Then roast the dry ready chillies for few secs....
  4. Take the smallest jar of the mixer grinder tip in dry red chillies and shallots and blend for few secs.....then rest of the ingredients except shrimp and curry leaves and blend for few more secs..don't make it to a paste.... Just crush everything together....finally add in dried shrimp and curry leaves and blend once more for few secs... If needed add salt.....
  5. Serve with rice or porridge.

Remove from pan when they are crispy. This chutney powder is somewhat a different version with an amazing and a different taste. This preparation is also very simple. Normally, people of Kerala love to have chemmeen and this would be the treat for them. This is the perfect combo with rice.
