  2. Prepare 1.4 cup of Water.

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon Ghee in a pan, add poppy seeds and saute for a second..

  6. Meanwhile boil 1 or 1.4 cup of water on medium flame along with a pinch of salt and 1 tablespoon of Ghee..
  7. Add the rice flour in a boiling water and mix well.
  8. Stir this mixture continuously for 1 to 2 minutes to prevent any lumps.
  9. Then cover the pan with lid and cook the mixture on a low heat for 5 minutes.
  10. Now take this mixture in a large bowl or plate and let it cool for few minutes..
  11. Apply some Ghee or oil on your palm and knead the dough till it gets smooth and soft..
  12. Now take a large lemon sized ball from the dough and flatten it with your fingers..
  13. Make rounded shape disc / bowl and press the edges to reduce the thickness.
  14. Now start pinching the modak edges with your fingers and make more pleats, so that it will look nice..
  15. Then fill the coconut-jaggery stuffing at the center and gather the pleats together to form a bundle and pinch to seal the edges at the top. You can also use ready modak moulds..
  16. Now place all the modak in a steamer and steam it for 8 to 10 minutes.
